From our CEO: Our priorities for the fall sitting
Parliament’s back. Here’s what our CEO is watching for this fall.
With Parliament back, Federal Retirees is keeping members, older Canadians and retirement security in focus.
Parliamentarians have returned to the House of Commons amid geopolitical instability, trade uncertainty and a focus on Canadian sovereignty. Building bigger, faster and better has become a central theme of the Carney government, and we anticipate that continuing this session.
In uncertain times, when practical solutions and collaboration matter more than ever, one thing remains clear: Canada’s strength exists in its unity, and building a strong economic future demands the full participation of all Canadians, including older adults.
As the prime minister advances his agenda this fall, the National Association of Federal Retirees will be pushing for policies that leave no Canadian behind. We will advocate to safeguard and strengthen retirement security, keep public pensions strong and independent and safeguard public programs like Old Age Security and the Guaranteed Income Supplement — even as some look to use them as a wedge between older and younger Canadians.
Our association will also continue to be a voice for federal retirees. As Canada keeps its eyes on the world, it must not lose sight of those who have served it. That includes addressing issues affecting members, such as fair updates to the Pensioners’ Dental Services Plan, while supporting funding that advances equitable outcomes for all veterans.
Finally, as we look toward the fall budget, we expect a clear plan from the federal government to invest in the services and infrastructure a growing number of older Canadians will need. Demographics are changing quickly, and the government must adapt so Canadians can age with dignity. Investments and policies that support retirement security and healthy aging, strengthen communities, reduce future costs and improve the economy.
Thank you for helping us speak with a stronger voice.
