Monthly coffee and special event at upcoming AGM
The last Wednesday this month is Feb. 25, 2026 and in keeping with branch tradition the coffee party starts at 10:05 a.m. and runs until 11:05 a.m. at the Orchard Park Mall, 2271 Harvey Ave.
As well, plans are underway to have a special event in conjunction with the branch annual general meeting (AGM) on Friday, April 10, 2026.
Once again, keep in mind that branch bylaws prohibit nominations from the floor at the AGM. Therefore, you need not worry that you will be pressured into accepting a board position if you attend. However, to keep our branch vibrant, responsive and “making a difference” does require members to volunteer. If you have any interest, members of the current team would be happy to share their insights with you.
Add the event to your calendar and plan to attend!
Monthly coffee and learning experience question
Monthly coffee : The last Wednesday in December is Dec. 31, New Years Eve. Therefore, your branch executive agreed that it be postponed until Jan. 28, 2026, when the monthly tradition, the monthly coffee morning will reconvene.
The learning experience question: The recent learning experience focus was a presentation on the topic of artificial intelligence (AI). The branch was permitted to videotape the presentation.
Since then, the branch has received several requests asking if it was possible to view the video. We have received permission from the presenter to air the video for our members. Therefore, if there is sufficient interest, we will schedule a showing of the video for members, family and friends in early to mid January, 2026.
If you would be interested in attending this event, please reply by email at centralokanagan@federalretirees.ca or call the office at 1-250-712-6213. Please provide us with your name and telephone number and the number of people that would attend.
A reply by Dec. 30 at the latest would be appreciated.
Branch management team opportunity
The Central Okanagan Branch, your branch is always looking for members to join one of our branch teams; members who want to continue using their life learned skills or those wishing to try a new challenge. However, this time, due to a planned resignation, we need a member to take on a specific role and join our finance management team as branch treasurer.
You do not need to be a trained accountant, but you do need to feel comfortable with a computer.
Other board members are very familiar with the position and are more than willing to mentor and assist.
If you can spare two to three hours a month, we would very much like to hear from you. If you want added information or have questions, please contact Daniela Evans, branch president at 1-778-875-3868 or myself at
1-250-317-4446, we will gladly oblige.
Sincerely,
Guy Bird
Vice president, Central Okanagan Branch
