Edmonton Branch Hosts Two More Public Service Pension Plan Information Sessions January 26 and February 1, 2020

As part of the Edmonton Branch’s continued drive to increase membership, and due to an enthusiastic response to the January/February 2019 pension Information seminars, the Edmonton Branch hosted two more seminars on January 26 and February 1, 2020.  Approximately 50  public servants attended each of the sessions.

As with the 2019 seminars, before turning the mic and podium over to Melody Walz, Branch President Ross Gillespie explained the benefits for actively working federal public servants who choose to join Federal Retirees while they are still working. He also took time to talk about Johnson Inc.'s Medoc Inssurance program.

Public Service Pension Plan

Melody Walz, certified presenter of the Public Service Pension Plan, again gave in-depth presentations on the Public Service Pension Plan, covering topics ranging from the pension and benefits website, Supplementary Death Benefit, the impact of leave without pay, Indexing, bridge benefit, and service buy-backs. She also discussed survivor benefits, group insurance benefits and services and information. Attendees learned how to access information about their pension from the pension office, and what information was available to them. Throughout the session, Melody fielded many questions from the audience. During lunch break and after the session ended, she responded to individual questions and concerns.

Attendees Response

As in 2019, almost all attendees completed survey forms indicating overwhelming approval of the sessions. Most attendees were not aware that they were eligible for membership in Federal Retirees while they were still working, several indicated they would likely join Federal Retirees to take advantage of the benefits.
