Welcome to the website of the York Branch of the National Association of Federal Retirees!. We’re hoping that this website will help keep our members up to date with branch activities, and encourage them to participate or even play a role with the branch.
Most of our members worked in the GTA, and have retired to their suburban homes. No small number spend a good part of the winter in warmer parts of the world so we have been relying more on technology even before the COVID-19 emergency forced us all indoors for a time.
We board members meet regularly through the year, planning branch activities such as our spring and fall members’ meetings, and doing our part in running Federal Retirees as a whole. We are getting a little more active on the advocacy side as well – we all know well that our, “gold-plated pensions” are a general source of criticism and attacks. The social side of meeting with like-minded people is a plus for us all.
The all members’ meetings in the spring and fall give direction and approval for branch activities, and normally involve a luncheon and a guest speaker. Sadly many members find the distance to the Richmond Hill meeting location a challenge. COVID-19 has made virtual or videoconference meetings the only way we can proceed. This is just not the same as in-person meetings – we hope to back in full form by the fall of 2021, though perhaps with some technological enhancement for shut-ins and more distant members.
