Branch annual meeting

Members are invited to the Algonquin Valley Branch for its upcoming branch annual meeting (BAM).

Have an eligible friend or family member who hasn’t joined Federal Retirees yet? Bring them along so they can learn more about the Association and what we do for our members!

  • 1 p.m. Branch annual meeting begins
    • Approve record of proceedings of the last branch annual meeting
    • Receive a report from the president concerning the activities of the branch executive since the previous meeting
    • Receive reviewed financial report for 2022 fiscal year;
    • Receive budget for the 2023 fiscal year;
    • Approve reviewer for the 2023 fiscal year.

    • Elections for the branch executive

Mary ter Huurne : The Way: My Camino in Spain In the spring of 2022 Mary ter Huurne travelled solo to the south of France, then proceeded to walk almost 800km. She first walked south over the Pyrenees, then headed west along the north of Spain. She walked through woods, fields, and towns following a path laid down over a thousand years ago arriving at Santiago de Compestela 40 days later. She will share some of her experiences and photos in a short presentation.

Amendments to Local Branch Bylaws

One agenda item in this meeting will be a vote on the proposed changes to our local bylaws. The updated wording is as follows:

9.6 Reserve Funds

The Branch may establish reserve fund(s) of allocated resources compliant with national policy.

The branch may establish and maintain reserve funds in accordance with the Association’s regulations. The Branch board has the authority to create, change, or remove such reserves and must present a report on the status of all branch reserves at each annual general meeting as part of the presentation of the Branch’s financial statements.”

9.6.1 Defence of Benefits Emergency Reserve Fund
The Branch Executive may establish and maintain an additional reserve fund, known as the Defence of Benefits Reserve Fund, withdrawals from which may be made only to support initiatives to promote or protect significant pension or health benefits.

9.6.2 Maximum Amount
The maximum amount to be held in reserve fund(s) shall be set at a Branch Annual Meeting by a proposal receiving a majority (more than 50%) of the votes cast.

9.6.3 Reserve Withdrawals/s>
The Branch Executive may authorize the withdrawal from the reserve fund(s) up to the nationally approved limit.
