Comments

Meal reservations are required. Reservations will not be accepted after May 2nd, unless there are cancellations. We maintain a Meeting Contact List and advise all members on the list of up-coming meetings by either email or telephone. Emails are sent approximately 10 – 15 days in advance of the meeting. For those for whom we do not have an email address on our records, telephoners will call approximately 7 – 15 days in advance of the meeting. If you do not usually receive an email or a call and would like to have your name added to the list, or, if you wish to attend this specific meeting, please call Heather-Anne Elliott-Martin, 780-942-2664. For members living outside the Edmonton calling area who would like to be notified of the upcoming meetings (held on the first Wednesday in May, September, and December), please call 1 855 FSNA EDM (1 855 376 2336). A record is kept of these long distant members and they are called prior to each meeting. If you can help as a telephone volunteer, please call Heather.

CART (Communications Access Realtime Translation) services will be provided for our Deaf and Hard of Hearing Members.
With CART, everything that is said is “captioned” live for deaf and hard of hearing individuals. The CART captions will be displayed via a projector on a large screen. The CART provider quickly types into a stenotype machine using machine shorthand, and the computer software translates that shorthand into realtime captions, matching the shorthand against what is in a specialized shorthand dictionary stored in the computer. The process is so fast that there is hardly any lag time between what is said and what the deaf or hard of hearing person is able to read.

    * The Canada Not-for-Profit Corporations Act, under which the National Association of Federal Retirees has been incorporated, provides that in certain circumstances a vote of the entire membership will be required. Our National Office has established a reserve to cover the cost of carrying out the vote if one is required. However, if such a vote is taken, branches will be required to provide 45% of the funds needed to replenish the fund. The estimated requirement for the Edmonton Branch is $2,200, based on our pro rata share of the national membership. The National Association has recommended that branches establish a reserve fund for this potential cost.
