Our board leadership titles have changed: “president” is now “national board chair” and “vice-president” is now “national board vice-chair.”

The Association is providing this update to keep all members well-informed about the organization’s governance.

Until recently, the director chairing the board has been called “the president.” Some have mistakenly interpreted this to mean that the role is an executive or management position. It is not the role is not managerial and has no greater authority than any other director.

To clarify this, on July 24, 2025 the board changed the title to “national board chair.” The former vice-president post is now called “national board vice-chair.” These are more accurate and appropriate titles for the two director posts.

The duties of the chair and vice-chair are unchanged:

  • Chairing meetings of the board.
  • Serving as officers of the company.
  • As an Association spokesperson, delivering messages consistent with board policy.
  • Performing tasks assigned by the board.

The post of national board chair is currently vacant and will be filled, for a term ending June 2028, at an election scheduled for Nov. 19, 2025. Nominations close Sept. 26, 2025. Members across the country are eligible.

We welcome candidates from any staffing level of the public service, Canadian Armed Forces, RCMP and Judiciary as well as spousal members. The Association is committed to building a board that mirrors the diversity of our membership, so we strongly encourage applications from members of diversity and equity-deserving groups, including women, individuals who identify as Black, Indigenous or Persons of Colour (BIPOC), people with disabilities and members of the 2SLGBTQI+ community.
