On International Women’s Day, we recognize the women whose leadership helps guide Federal Retirees’ advocacy.

The National Association of Federal Retirees joins Canadians in marking International Women’s Day and recognizing the leadership, service and advocacy of women across the country.

Women play an important role in shaping the association's work. In 2025, Gisèle Tassé-Goodman was elected national board chair, bringing decades of experience connecting public policy, community priorities and the well-being of older Canadians. Alongside her, eight other women serve on the national board of directors, contributing their expertise to the governance and advocacy of Federal Retirees.

This leadership informs our work to advance policies that support equity and financial security for women throughout their lives and into retirement. Women are more likely to experience interrupted careers, lower lifetime earnings and longer retirements — factors that can affect retirement income security. Protecting workplace pensions and strengthening programs such as the Canada Pension Plan, Old Age Security and the Guaranteed Income Supplement remain key priorities.

Federal Retirees also works to advance understanding of the experiences of women veterans. Through its co-leadership of the Women Veterans Research and Engagement Network (WREN), the association supports research and collaboration that promotes evidence-based, sex- and gender-informed policies in defence and security.

On International Women’s Day, Federal Retirees recognizes the contributions of women across the public service, the Canadian Armed Forces, the RCMP and communities across Canada — and reaffirms its commitment to advancing policies that support equity, dignity and security for women at every stage of life.
