In early October, the National Association of Federal Retirees’ president, Roy Goodall, and CEO Anthony Pizzino met with Treasury Board president Anita Anand. Goodall and Pizzino spoke about pensioner representation in federal public sector pensions and about the upcoming transition, in July 2024, of the Pensioners’ Dental Services Plan to Canada Life from Sun Life. The Public Service Health Care Plan (PSHCP) was at the top of Goodall’s agenda as it’s the most pressing issue facing the Association.

The transition to Canada Life from Sun Life as the PSHCP’s provider has not been seamless, and many federal retirees have been struggling with issues ranging from plan enrolment to claims to reimbursement. While we appreciate that the transition is a significant undertaking, the service to our members has not met our expectations. During the meeting with Anand, Goodall raised the difficulties pensioner members continue to face in making the transition and raised the need to improve physiotherapy coverage for those who need it most.

It was clear that Anand understands the issues the Association raised and is committed to improving federal retirees’ experiences, including with the PSHCP transition.

Throughout the meeting, Goodall focused on the power and importance of collaboration to resolve challenges and deliver results, including improving the delivery of the PSHCP.

Anand noted that the Association’s work representing federal retirees’ interests is important. “These are issues important to 170,000 people across the country, and we’re happy to keep working with you on them,” she told Goodall and Pizzino.
