Federal Retirees’ Windsor & Area Branch has focused on advocacy, and their work is paying off.
As a direct result of their ongoing advocacy efforts, Windsor & Area Branch representatives were selected to be on member of Parliament (MP) Irek Kusmierczyk's Seniors Advisory Committee. The committee meets periodically to discuss issues important to seniors with the MP in a small group setting. Committee members are also invited to meet with visiting ministers.
“This provides quite special access to convey concerns to senior policy leaders,” says Larry Duffield, branch advocacy volunteer. “I certainly feel privileged to have this opportunity to promote Federal Retirees’ priorities .”
Because of their established relationship with their local MP, three branch volunteers were invited by MP Irek Kusmierczyk to meet Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in March.
These are shining examples of how branches building and maintaining relationships with local MPs lead to additional, valuable opportunities that move our advocacy forward.
