MINUTES OF THE EXECUTIVE MEETING
HELD THURSDAY 14 JUN 2018

1. CALL TO ORDER

The President called the meeting to order at 1000 hrs.


2. PREVIOUS MINUTES

The minutes of the previous meeting, held 10 May, were presented. Moved by Attila, seconded by Agnes that they be accepted.

3. BUSINESS ARISING FROM THE PREVIOUS MINUTES

There was none.


4. CORRESPONDENCE

There was none.


5. COMMITTEE REPORTS

a. Membership

Hugh reported the membership numbers.

Hugh reported that 4 single & 1 double were deleted as the members had stopped paying.
 

b. Treasurer

Ted reported that the Bank of Montreal (BMO) chequing balance is $3,179.43; BBQ and prizes, totaling $2100.00 still has to come out. 

We have $14,935.54 invested in Kawartha Credit Union (KCU). One of the GICs is due for renewal 8 Jul, Ted will talk to KCU about a high interest rate when rolling over.
 

c. Telephone Committee

No report, member absent
 

d.  Welfare

Agnes stated the Eileen Howey died in March and Joseph Royer and Irene Neilisher died in May.
 

e.  Health & Senior's Issues

Ian reported that he is preparing for the Fall Meeting and plans to discuss: Clarification & Information on Fall Alert Buttons; Safe Sound Personal Alert Buttons; Scams Updates; Shopping Online Problems and Pitfalls; and "Your Privacy is Not Under Your Control".
 

f.  Social Events

Gloria reported that 71 people attended the BBQ.  She went over the results of the survey, and the consensus was that we would book the Legion for the next year's BBQ. with the LA doing the cooking. The time will change to 12 for 12:30.
 

g. Public Relations and Publicity

Attila explained the updates to the website. He has posted that sandwiches will be served at the Fall Meeting. There was some discussion on a speaker. Richard Wright, the estate lawyer was suggested, as was Christine Reive, the Quinte West Police Chief. There are no changes to the Christmas Luncheon planned for 7 Dec 2018.
 

6.  NEW BUSINESS

There was some discussion on ways to pass on the savings in the rent to the members.

Moved by Ian, seconded by Ted, that starting with the Fall Meeting, prize draws be increased to 5 prizes of $30 each.

CARRIED

The Fall and Spring upcoming meetings will have sandwiches instead of Pizza. 

Tom stated that he is going to the AGM next week. He mentioned that the new building in the East end is very nice. NAFR is renting out a floor, which helps with income.

Tom said that he would work on a guest speaker for the Fall Meeting. (Secretary's Note: Tom reported via email that Richerd Wright is booked for the Fall Meeting.)
 

7.  NEXT MEETING

The next meeting is planned for Thursday Oct 11, 2018 at 1000.
 

8.  ADJOURNMENT

There being no further business, it was moved by Gloria, seconded by Agnes that the meeting be adjourned at 1040.
